If you disassemble the power adapter, you will find a constant power rectifier inside. Many people don't know what this thing is and what is its use? In fact, the constant power rectifier can provide a constant power when the AC power of the external power supply is converted into DC power, so that the equipment can work stably.
Why do power adapter manufacturers prefer constant power rectifiers? Because the current-holding capacity of ordinary current-limiting rectifiers is not strong, if the input current is too high and exceeds the current limit value, the output voltage of the rectifier will drop rapidly. If the input current exceeds its limit range, the rectifier will automatically shut down. In contrast, the constant power rectifier adopts the three-phase bridge current control technology, and the converted DC current and voltage will pass through the reactor after smoothing. It becomes a constant DC current, and the input voltage is also in a constant state, so the output power of the rectifier will remain unchanged.
For example, the output voltage of a constant power rectifier can decrease linearly from 80V to 43V as the current increases. At this point, the power adapter can still work normally. The manufacturer only needs to consider the maximum load of the electronic equipment and the redundancy of the rectifier to determine the rated output power. Compared with the current-limiting power adapter system, the required rectification power and the number of rectification modules can be reduced by at least 30%. Manufacturing cost is saved.
