Overheat protection means that when the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, the corresponding protection function will be activated. The power adapter generates heat due to energy conversion or friction during operation, which will cause abnormal operation or failure. It can be divided into the following categories: automatic reset type, manual reset type, non-renewable type, non-resettable type and other types that can provide equivalent overheating protection.

The most basic requirements for overheating protection settings are no mechanical shock, easy disassembly, polarity protection function, cables, and non-polarity equipment connection terminals must have two cable overheating protection programs, and the protection circuit is disconnected, which will not affect the normal operation of the network adapter , but it cannot cause fire or damage the power adapter and charging equipment.
In order to suppress the temperature rise of the power adapter, in addition to selecting a power MOS tube with small leakage current and short storage time, it is also necessary to install a heat sink on the power MOS tube. In this way, the stability of the power adapter will be greatly improved, and the loss rate will be significantly reduced.
If there is an IC on the power adapter to control the overheating protection of the driver, there is no need to add any external components to prevent overheating. Since the power adapter controls the driver IC, a PN junction temperature sensor is built in, including a thermal shutdown circuit. A PN junction temperature sensor has a built-in driver IC connected to the sensor. Driver IC thermal shutdown circuit and over-temperature protection become very simple.
